Everybody should have a Will, yet 70% of the adult population of the UK hasn't got one.
If you die without writing a Will then your assets are distributed according to the rules of Intestacy. And the rules are very strict and inflexible. In extreme cirucmstances, if you have no living relatives, then the government or the Duchy of Lancaster (depending on where you live) gets the lot. And you may not feel that Gordon Brown or Prince Charles are necessarily the most deserving recipients of your hard earned money!
But perhaps most importantly, if you die withour making a Will it can cause untold difficulties and problems for your relatives and loved-ones.
If you are an unmarried couple then your partner will get nothing if you die without a will.
If you have children under 18 years old then you should consider using your Will to appoint legal guardians to look after your children in the event of your death.
You may want to use your will to exclude certain people (e.g. ex-spouses) from claiming part of your estate.
Most people are put off writing a will because it seems rather daunting, complicated and expensive. All members of The Wills and Trusts Organisation will make sure its a simple and straightforward process, explaining everything clearly to you along the way and we are considerably cheaper than most solicitors.
